The Experimentarium is an attraction full of fun for adults and children alike
Only 3 km (1.86 miles) away from the centre of Kolding lies Denmark’s first big hydroelectric plant, built in years 1918-1920 (read more about the history of Harteværket here). The power plant is still in operation and these days produces about 1 % of Kolding’s power. Within this historical frame, you will find a modern experimentarium where children and adults can have a nice time and get to know more about water, energy and movement.
In the Experimentarium, you will find:
Harteværket has lots of facilities to offer both children and adults alike.
You can among other things get a guided tour and learn more about Harteværket and its history. You can otherwise rent a canoe and row out into the beautiful nature.
There are of course other possibilities too and you can read more about them here.
About the Experimentarium
The hydroelectric plant
Get all the way into the old, beautiful turbine hall. Up close, you will see how they make electricity out of water. When there is enough water, the enormous turbines noisily get to work. You can also take a guided tour around the nooks and corners of the plant, experience the magic in the interactive sandbox or watch the exhibition of electric appliances from the time of your great-grandfather.
The water playground
Behind Harteværket lies the water playground. Here, the smallest of children can direct the water through a maze of canals while the bigger ones can challenge the laws of physics on dynamic water machines.
During our opening hours, there is the option of building a boat. You buy the hull of a boat at our box office for the price of 20 DKK. Afterwards, you can go into the tower and decorate your boat with different materials, we have lying about. This activity is a sure hit with the children!
All children will get a logbook or a crown when entry has been payed for. In the logbook, there are exercises, the children can solve by finding different things around the plant – we recommend this activity for children of 5+ years.
The smaller children should of course not get cheated out of an activity which is why we have a royal crown for them. At the back of the crown, there is the option of solving some problems along with mum and dad.
Sydbank Trampoline park
In the area, you will also find a trampoline park. We have 8 trampolines in varying sizes such that there is something for everyone.
The trampoline park is a part of the payment area and can only be used within our opening hours.
